BLDG
BLDG is the restaurant occupying the lobby of Hotel Marcel, New Haven, CT. The project is an adaptive reuse of Marcel Breuer’s Brutalist icon: the Pirelli Building. Along with the hotel, Dutch East Design provided a unique visual identity for the restaurant.
As a counterpoint to Hotel Marcel's visual identity, the hotel restaurant's is flamboyant and colorful. BLDG represents the expressive, hand-made qualities of the Bauhaus movement, which served as much of the inspiration behind the hotel's art and textile design.
